Denise's Biography
Denise is a lifelong resident of Chester and presently lives in her grandmother’s home with her husband Wayne and son Brandon. Throughout Denise’s life she has involved herself in community development. She has shown a natural flare to help others and this certainly continues in her life now as a MLA and the Minister of Community Services and Minister of Seniors.
Denise’s professional life laid a solid foundation for her to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly. After receiving a diploma in radio and television broadcasting and a Degree in Public Relations. Denise’s first job was in economic development with the Town of Lunenburg. This job was followed by 10 years as a Communications Manager for Halifax County and HRM. Denise’s professional experiences spanned from government, non-profit to the corporate world.
Denise is proud of the fact that she had an opportunity to work with well known non-profit organizations, such as Breakfast For Learning, Canadian Cancer Society Nova Scotia Division and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Denise was instrumental in establishing the Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events in Chester and the Head of St. Margaret’s Bay.
“Having the opportunity to work in different sectors has given me a wide range of skills and knowledge that I now use daily in my role as MLA.” said Denise. Being an MLA means that I have the opportunity to help others and that is what I enjoy.”
